Central Statistical Office (Polish: Główny Urząd Statystyczny; GUS) is the main government executive agency of Poland charged with the collection and publication of statistics related to the economy, population and society of the Poland, at both national and local levels. The president of the GUS (currently Józef Oleński) is subordinate directly to the Prime Minister of Poland and is considered equal to a minister of the government of Poland. It was first organized in 1918 by Ludwik Krzywicki, one of the most notable sociologist of his times. Inactive during the World War II, it was reorganized in 1945. The Office is divided onto several separate branches, each entitled with a different set of data. Among them are the Divisions of Co-ordination of Statistical Surveys, Analyses and Regional Statistics, Dissemination, National Accounts and Finance, Business Statistics and Registers, Social Statistics, Services Statistics, Agriculture and Environment Statistics, International Cooperation, as well as Budgetary and Personnel.
   Among the notable publications of GUS are "Rocznik Statystyczny" (Statistical Yearbook), "Mały Rocznik Statystyczny" (Concise Statistical Yearbook) and "Wiadomości Statystyczne" (Statistical News).
